Join Us in Much Wenlock

About The Area
Our cottage is in the village of Much Wenlock, so a well-stocked supermarket, garage, pharmacy and post office are all on the doorstep. It is even within walking distance of 5 pubs! The George and Dragon is a personal favourite of ours and a lovely place to stop in.
Treat Yourself to Much Wenlock’s Finest
Much Wenlock itself is a beautiful, medieval town with a number of independent shops. We highly recommend the following:
- The Linden Tree for beautiful, locally produced art and design
- Paddy Ryan’s famous butchers for high quality products
- The Pig & Pie for all your homemade goodies
- Choctilly for delicious, locally made chocolate
- The Simple Life for zero waste/eco lifestyle products
A farmers produce market also takes place on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings in The Buttermarket, combining a lovely outing with outstanding natural produce.

Explore Much Wenlock’s Unique History
Historians will be spoiled for choice when it comes to this architectural gem of a village. Much Wenlock is home to over 100 listed buildings, each with their own stories to tell. Wenlock Priory, run by English Heritage, is at the centre of things and these monastic ruins make for a wonderful outing. The Grade I listed Holy Trinity church is also definitely worth viewing, wowing with its stunning architecture.
Visit the Home of the Modern Olympics!
Sports enthusiasts may be aware that Much Wenlock is the home of the modern Olympics. Beginning in 1850, the Wenlock Olympian Games inspired the Olympics' revival and is still a tradition held today. The Olympian Trail takes you to all the important locations and it’s also a fantastic way to explore the village. Trail maps and guides are available at the Tourist Information Centre, local outlets, and the Wenlock Olympian Society website.
Explore Shropshire
Much Wenlock is ideally placed to allow you to explore, with fabulous activities and lovely shopping destinations only a short distance away.
10 minutes away in each direction you have Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Ironbridge.
Shrewsbury
This historical town is home to a selection of delightful independent shops and vibrant culture. It boasts an annual flower show in August alongside other fantastic festivals and events. Keen lovers of history will love its connections to notable figures including Charles Darwin and Wilfred Owen.
Bridgnorth
From charming markets and shops to its unique incline railway, Bridgnorth is a lovely place to explore. You can also indulge in nostalgia by checking out the Severn Valley Railway which combines stunning scenery with old-time steam engines.
Ironbridge
As the birthplace of industry, Ironbridge makes a worthwhile visit. Its spectacular namesake bridge and museums make for fabulous viewing and the village also boasts a range of independent shops, cafes, and pubs.
Dine Out During Your Stay
The village has plenty of coffee shops to get your daily caffeine fix plus lots of options for a delicious meal out. In our opinion, the best restaurant in town is Baker and Cook (be aware, you’ll need to book – even for breakfast!), but all the pubs do food as well. The George and Dragon is a personal favourite – there are tables out the back which are quieter than the main bar.
Locally, The Riverside is also a great spot. On a sunny day it really doesn’t get any better and in the opposite direction The Woodbridge is stunning.
